Ye Shall Know the Truth

Ye SHALL Know The Truth!
Written By:
Robin W. Haley

Such is the promise of our Lord Jesus when He spoke to those gathered about Him, as recorded in John chapter eight, verse 32. Now, either our Master was mistaken, or was lying, or those who make such foolish and blasphemous statements like “One cannot really know anything for sure” are the mistaken liars. I realize this may be rather harsh sounding language, but it is frightening the number of people who do not seem to think through their statements about the Book Divine and its Author.

Truth is a commodity that is precious, and consistency in handling it is rare. “The legs of the lame are not equal” is a saying that describes those who will claim ABSOLUTELY that one cannot know anything for sure. For some reason the contradictory nature of their statement does not dawn upon them. They claim to KNOW that one cannot KNOW something for sure. How do they KNOW?

By virtue of its nature, Truth is absolute because its Author is an absolute Being. Whereas the Bible says that “no lie is of the truth” (1 John 2.21), it just as readily teaches that no “truth” is merely subjective. It does not, cannot fluctuate: as Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow (Hebrews 13.8), so also is the Truth. Since with God there is no variation nor shadow that is cast by turning (James 1.17) , so Truth does not change.

Truth is absolute because of the One Who represents it. Jesus said “I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life” (John 14.6). Truth is absolute because of Who embodies it. The apostle Paul would tell the Ephesians that “TRUTH is in Jesus, (Ephesians 4.21).”

Having established the absolute, unchangeable nature of Truth, and that because of its Author, let us examine the consequences of the allegation: one cannot know the truth for certainty.

If one could not know the Truth, one could not “do” the truth. Yet Jesus said “But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been wrought in God” (John 3.21). Not knowing the truth, and not doing the truth would prevent one from coming to the light, thus, none could be saved!

If one could not know the Truth, one could not obey the Truth. But Paul said those who obey not the truth receive God’s wrath and indignation (Romans 2.8). Just so, all men would receive God’s wrath because none could not obey what they could not know.

If one could not know the Truth, one could not be sanctified. Again Paul teaches us that God chooses us for salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the Truth (2 Thessalonians 2.13). But if we cannot know the truth, one could not believe it, thus one could not be sanctified (set apart as holy in the sight of God). If we are not holy, we are sinful and all are lost! But this contradicts what Paul told the Christians at Corinth when he told them that they WERE sanctified (1 Corinthians 6.11).

If one could not know the Truth, one does not have the benefit of the sacrifice of Jesus’ blood for sins. Hebrews 10.26 reads “for if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins.” This plainly shows that it is possible to have a knowledge of the Truth. If we could not, then we could not but sin willfully at all times and there would be no forgiveness. If there would be no forgiveness, Jesus died in vain for the Bible says “apart from shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrews 9.22).

If one could not know the Truth, one could not be born again. James wrote that God brought us forth by the word of truth (James 1.18). Peter teaches that we are made pure by our obedience to that word of Truth (1 Peter 1.22) and thus are born again (verse 23). If we could not know the truth, how could we obey and be born again? WE COULD NOT!

How foolish indeed to conclude that one cannot know the Truth. We may as well throw the Bible away for it is full of lies since it teaches that we MUST yea, SHALL know the Truth which will make us free from sin. Please do not be duped by the sophistry of neo-agnosticism. Believe the truth and obey the truth because as Jesus said…
YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE!

Hey Josh,

Love the post.

The real problem is that many do not "receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved."

TRUTH...hmmm?

If we can know the truth, and I assume you mean spiritual truth, then why are there so many "Christian" churches?

Dozens and dozens each teaching something different...where is the truth in all this mess?

The truth is where it has always been, in God's revealed word. The Bible teaches what it teaches regardless of what anyone "thinks" it teaches. God's word is objective truth and is not dependent upon my perception for its validity.

The "dozens and dozens each teaching something different" is not the result of God's revealed truth, but the perversion of that truth by men (Matt. 15:9).

Mr. Brewer,

Are you not begging the question a bit? How do we "know" that "God's reveald word" is itself true? Or that there is a god? Or that he is the author of that book?

How do I know someone with the pseudonym "e.nigma" exists? Or that this person is the author of the above?

Mr. Brewer,

I'm serious, how do you go about "proving" that God exists, the Bible is from God and that it is true in what it says...historically, etc.

I'm serious too. How do I know such a person as e.nigma exists and wrote the above?

Well for one...you are engaging me in dialogue. If I do not exists, then you are loopy. LOL

I know the Bible exists, but that alone, nor the claims made in it necessarily prove that God exists or that he is the author.

e. nigma states he/she/it knows the Bible exists.

How do you know you know?

I also know the above message exists, but that alone doesn't necessarily prove that such a person as e.nigma exists or that he is the author of it.

someone asks a serious question and all you bozos can do is give them the run around.

It seems you cannot answer the question. So why don't you stop pretending that you have any answers.

If the Bible cannot be proven to be from God, then why bother worrying about what it teaches on anything.

Thanks for nothing. I'm out of here.

If there is a God, may he have mercy on you.

Signed a seriously disappointed searcher.

I don't mean to be a bozo. I asked those questions to show you the answer to yours. I believe you exist. The messages you sent indicate you exist.

That God exists can be seen from the creation. If there was not a First Cause (God) there would be nothing.
